GOLKONDA FORT

Description :

Golkonda or Golla Konda is one of the most ancient places in Hyderabad, India. It is situated 11km west of Hyderabad. In 13th century Golkonda fort was built by the Hindu Kakatiya kings. In the 16th century, Golkonda was the capital and fortress city of the Qutub Shahi kingdom, near Hyderabad. The Qutub Shahi kings, a great family of builders who had ruled the Golconda kingdom from 1512.


The Qutub Shahi sultanate lasted until its conquest by Mughal emperor Aurangazeb in 1687. Kancharla Gopanna, popularly known as Bhaktha Ramadaasu, at the time of sultan Tana Shah without his permission he has constructed Bhadrachalam temple. For this he was kept in a jail located inside the fort.


The Golkonda fort use to have a Vault chamber where once the famous Kohinoor and Hope diamonds were stored along with other diamonds. The fortress held against Aurangzeb for nine months, falling to the Mughals through treachery. for more .....
